SKL21 Clip for Vossloh Railway Fastening System

SKL21 Clip, also known as SKL21 Railway Clip or Vossloh SKL 21 Rail Tension Clamp, is a highly elastic, W-shaped steel clip designed for securing rails in high-performance railway track systems, particularly the Vossloh System W 21. It is known for its high fatigue strength, excellent rail creep resistance, and maintenance-free design.

Key Features and Specifications

The SKL 21 clip(clamp) is a core component of the W 21 fastening system, which is used globally for conventional and high-speed rail lines.

• Application: Suitable for ballasted tracks with concrete sleepers, used on conventional rail (≤ 250 km/h) and high-speed lines (≥ 250 km/h).

• Material: Made from spring steel (such as 60Si2CrA or 38Si7), with various finishes like plain oiling or corrosion-resistant coatings (e.g., Vossloh protect C5-L).

• Performance:

1. Toe load (nominal): 10 kN.

2. Spring deflection: 14.5 mm, ensuring continuous contact with the rail foot even under dynamic loads.

3. Vertical fatigue strength: 2.5 mm, tested for millions of load cycles.

4. Rail creep resistance: ≥ 9 kN.

5. Axle load: Maximum of 26 tonnes.

• Design: Features a central bend that acts as additional protection against excessive rail tilting, preventing the spring arms from being overstretched. The system is fully electrically insulated when used with appropriate components like plastic guide plates and rail pads. 

System Components

The SKL 21 tension clamp is part of a complete system that includes several other parts: 

• SKL 21 Tension Clamp: Four units per fastening point.

• Screw Spike: Such as Ss 35/Uls 7 (M24 x 150mm, 160mm, or 180mm), which secures the assembly to the sleeper.

• Angled Guide Plate: Used to provide gauge adjustment (± 10 mm) and prevent the rail from tilting, transferring lateral forces.

• Plastic Dowel: Inserted into the concrete sleeper to provide a secure anchor point for the screw spike.

• Rail Pad: An elastic pad made of materials like cellentic elastomer or EVA, placed between the rail and sleeper to reduce vibration and absorb vertical forces.
