Pandrol Fastclip is a high-performance, threadless, and resilient rail fastening system designed for rapid mechanized installation and low maintenance. Unlike traditional clips, the Fastclip is a "total system" where all components arrive at the site pre-assembled and captive on the sleeper, eliminating the risk of lost or loose parts.
Switch On-Switch Off Function: The system features a unique "parked" position where clips are held securely but do not touch the rail seat. Installation is achieved by simply driving the clip forward onto the rail foot, which can be done manually or with automated machinery.
Captive Pre-assembly: Components—including the clip, rail pad, and insulators—are pre-installed at the factory. This allows sleepers to be laid and the rail to be threaded without handling individual small parts.
High-Speed Mechanization: Specifically designed for automation, the system can support installation rates of up to 70 sleepers per minute.
Threadless Technology: By removing threaded components like bolts or screws, the system eliminates issues related to corrosion, stripping, or regular tightening, significantly reducing life-cycle costs.
The Fastclip family includes several models tailored to specific rail environments:
FC: The standard resilient fastening for use on concrete or steel sleepers.
FE: An economical variant optimized for high-output track relaying with a focus on fast-installation efficiency.
FCA: Designed for ballastless (slab) tracks where high vertical adjustment is required without a baseplate.
FE RR: A heavy-haul version capable of supporting axle loads up to 40 tonnes and tight curves down to a 150-meter radius.
Fastclip Baseplate: A specialized assembly for bridge and viaduct structures, offering extensive lateral (+/- 12 mm) and vertical (+70 mm) adjustments.
The following data reflects standard performance across the primary Fastclip FC and FE series:
Nominal Toe Load: 1,000 kgf (FC1500/FE1500) to 1,250 kgf (FC1600/FE1600) per clip.
Clamping Force: Typically >16 kN for standard main lines, reaching >20 kN for heavy haul variants (FE RR).
Longitudinal Creep Resistance: >9 kN (compliant with EN 13146-1).
Electrical Insulation: >5 kΩ (wet, rail-to-rail).
Installation Speed: Optimized for mechanized installation at rates up to 70 sleepers per minute.
Specific variants provide varying degrees of track geometry correction:
Lateral Adjustment: Standard FC/FE systems allow ±5 mm per rail seat. The Fastclip Baseplate offers up to ±12 mm per assembly (±24 mm total gauge).
Vertical Adjustment: The Fastclip FCA (slab track) provides +20 mm to +30 mm via shims. The Fastclip Baseplate can accommodate up to +70 mm.
Fastclip systems are generally compliant with:
EN 13481-2: Fastening systems for concrete sleepers.
EN 13481-5: Fastening systems for slab track.
AREMA Chapter 30: North American heavy haul standards.
TSI: European High Speed Interoperability Directive.
