Nabla Blade with NF F50-015 Standard

The Nabla blade (also known as a Nabla clip or Nabla plate) is a key component of the Nabla rail fastening system, which is widely used on railways in France and Africa, including high-speed TGV lines. The blade is manufactured from alloy spring steel and must comply with the NF F50-015 standard.

Key Features

  • Function: The special shape of the Nabla blade creates a stable toe load on the rails when torqued with a high-strength bolt and nut. It is an elastic rail clip designed to provide consistent clamping force and resistance to movement caused by passing trains.

  • Material: It is made of alloy spring steel, adhering to the material specifications outlined in the French national standard NF F50-015. In China, common material grades include 60Si2MnA, 60Si2CrA, 55Si2Mn, and 38Si7.

  • Shape: It is shaped like a thick trapezoidal shovel with a round hole in the middle.

  • Performance: The clip has high hardness (typically HRC51-55) and a load of approximately 2500 DaN. It is known for its elasticity and fatigue resistance, maintaining its height and load after repeated testing.

  • Compliance: While the blade itself follows the NF F50-015 material standard, the complete Nabla fastening system is compliant with the broader European standard EN13481-5.

Nabla Blades and Nabla Insulator

System Components

The complete Nabla fastening system includes:

  • Nabla blade: The elastic component that provides clamping force.

  • Insulator (support pad): A specially designed component to insulate the clip from the rail.

  • High-strength bolt with nut and washer: Used to secure the system, often a double-end bolt pressed into a concrete sleeper.
