What Is Spike Screw SS35

The Spike Screw SS35 (also known as the Ss35 sleeper screw) is a high-performance threaded fastener used primarily in advanced railway fastening systems like the W14 and SKL14. While similar to the SS8, it is specifically optimized for modern concrete sleepers and high-speed rail applications where superior clamping force is required. 

Key Technical Specifications

The SS35 is typically manufactured to meet international standards such as UIC864-1, ISO898-1, and NF F500-50. 

System Integration

Unlike general-purpose spikes, the SS35 is a core component of several integrated track systems:

W14 Fastening System: Often used with the Uls7 flat washer and the Sdu25 plastic dowel to secure the rail to concrete sleepers.

SKL Fastening: Frequently paired with SKL12 or SKL14 tension clips to maintain a constant clamping force on the rail foot.

High-Speed & Metro: Its unique screw design provides the high "pull-out resistance" (up to 130kN) necessary for high-speed rail, subways, and light rail. 

Materials and Durability

To withstand heavy dynamic loads and environmental exposure, SS35 spikes are produced using:

Raw Materials: Q235, 35#, 45# carbon steel, or 40Cr alloy steel.

Protective Coatings: Most commonly treated with Dacromet (for 10-year corrosion resistance) or Hot-Dip Galvanizing (HDG). Other options include zinc plating and black oxide.
